The only game in town
Although a Jewish and democratic state with secure and recognized borders alongside an ndependent and demilitarized Palestinian state is a paramount national interest, no real action is being taken to break what is becoming an increasingly dangerous impasse. (The Jerusalem Report, March23, 2012)
Peace Without Partners
For three years, attempts at negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian leadership have failed because of a lack of trust. It now seems highly unlikely that the two sides will return to negotiations — but that does not mean the status quo must be frozen in place. (The New York Times, April 23, 2012)
Alone, Together
‘Constructive unilateralism’ is designed to bring the two-state reality closer, without compromising the chances of a negotiated peace (The Jerusalem Report, June 17, 2012)
No more waiting. The time for Israel to make peace is now
With the US presidnetial elections on the horizon, the approach to the Middle East seems to be to sit and wait. It’s a poor strategy. Time does not work in either party’s favour and, in the meantime, the one state vision spreads in both camps and settles within the hearts and minds of indifferent Israelis and frustrated Palestinians. (The Jewish chronicle, August 24, 2012)
Have the Palestinians Despaired of the Two-State Formula?
Within the Palestinian leadership and other circles, a recognition that the Israeli-Palestinian peace process cannot lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside the State of Israel is gradually taking root. The perception that Israeli governments have paid lip service to the two-state solution but have in fact not done much to make it happen is palpable. (INSS Insight, May 2, 2012)
A New Look at Afghanistan
Although for some time Israeli focus has not extended beyond the borders of Iran, a fresh approach to Iran’s eastern neighbor, Afghanistan, could unveil strategic advantages for Israel. (INSS Insight No. 354, July 15, 2012)
A Divide Over the Settlements in the West Bank
“Wrong Time for New Settlements” (editorial, July 11) rightly criticizes the Levy commission report, which asserts that Israel is not occupying the West Bank and that all Israeli settlements there are legal. Israel’s continued ruling of 2.5 million Palestinians is, as you say, “damaging to Israel’s security and regional peace.” (New York Times, July 11, 2012)
The Arab Peace Initiative: Worth Reexamination
For better or worse, the public discourse in Israel has recently focused exclusively on the nuclearization of Iran. However, precisely in light of the upheavals in the Arab world, it is now worth reexamining the relevance of the Arab Peace Initiative, which surfaced in Beirut in 2002 and was reaffirmed at subsequent Arab summits, most recently six months ago in Baghdad. (INSS Insight No. 371, October 4, 2012)
Don't make legalizing settlements Israel's grave
The Levy report pointlessly pushes the envelope of legal argumentation and negates the illegality of settlements. It would allow Israel to dig itself into an even deeper hole in the sand, endangering the country's future as a Jewish democracy. (Haaretz, July 18, 2012)
Start with 242, Not 1967
When US president Barack Obama declared that the 1967 borders should serve as the basis for negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, he deliberately undermined a 44-year-long international adherence to United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 (The Jesrusalem Report, June 18, 2011)
